What will the apprentice be doing?

Provide clinical support to the Senior Clinicians on site

Support Infection Control Procedures including the decontamination of equipment and furniture

Carry out basic observations on patients as requested (BP, Blood Oxygen saturations, Temperature etc.)

Chaperoning where required

Responsibility for clinical stock checks and keeping rooms stocked

To carry out phlebotomy after appropriate training

Carry out routine health checks as advised by the clinical lead

To gain the underpinning knowledge and practical skills to administer basic life support if necessary.

To maintain a professional image and observe confidentiality at all times

To maintain accurate records of patient documentation. To maintain accurate, timely and legible records of patient care including data input and submission of statistical information as required

To prepare and maintain clinical environments according to Health & Safety and Infection Control policies.

Carry out stock checks of clinical areas and fridges and ensure there is always adequate stock

To prepare and maintain information packs for patients

To contribute to the ordering, distribution and maintenance of equipment

To feedback and report on the condition and welfare of patients to the appropriate clinician.

To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as a direct response to surgery requirements.

To work in accordance with policies, procedures and protocols recognised by Practice.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standard, including Functional Skills if required.

This programme includes the Clinical Healthcare Support (QCF) Diploma L3.

You will attend some workshop delivery at our Derby Road college campus in Mansfield to support your learning and development.

You will work with expert assessors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.

You will experience a blended learning model.

You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.

At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.

Ensuring continuing education, training and development is a key part of the role and Partners Health are committed to providing good quality, learning and development opportunities to their staff. This may include progression onto higher level apprenticeship training to support a Nursing Degree.

Things to consider

There is a high likelihood that you may be required to work at the practice the second practice from time to time, therefore the ability to move within practices is preferable.
