    Monday to Thursday 7.00am until 4.30pm and Friday 8.00am until 12.00 noon= 40 hours per week. ½ hour unpaid lunch break and am+ pm 10 minutes paid breaks.

What will the apprentice be doing?

1)   X-ray Radiography:  

The apprentices will be trained in the principles of radiation. They will be trained in the use of the different types of X-ray sets.  

The apprentices will be trained in the different methods and techniques of radiography. They will be trained about Health & Safety regarding the use of X-rays including the use of safety equipment. They will be assisting in the X-ray radiography of welds, welded fabrications, machined components, pressure vessels, castings, forgings, electrical components, artefacts from museums, medical products - the list is endless.

The apprentices will be given their own projects to work on. They will also be trained in digital radiographic techniques and applications.


2) Gamma Radiography:  The apprentices will be trained in the principles of Gamma radiography. They will be trained in the use of the Gamma equipment.
They will be trained in the different methods and techniques of radiography. They will be trained about Health & Safety regarding the use of X-rays including the use of safety equipment.
They will be assisting in the X-ray radiography of welds, welded fabrications, machined components, pressure vessels, castings, forging s etc. They will be
given their own projects to work on.

3) Magnetic Particle Inspection:  The apprentices will be trained in the principles of Magnetism.  They will be trained and assist in the different methods of MPI.  They will be trained in the Health and Safety of using the relevant equipment and the adherence of COSH regulations. The type of work involved will be mainly on Aerospace work, machined components etc. They will be given they own projects to work on.

4) Liquid Penetrant:  The apprentices will be trained and assist in the different methods of LPI.  They will trained in the Health and Safety of using the relevant equipment and the adherence of COSH regulations. The type of work involved will be mainly on Aerospace work machined components etc. They will be given they own projects to work on.

5) Darkroom Duties. The apprentices will be trained in processing of radiographic film, good darkroom practice, loading and unloading of radiographic film cassettes. They will be trained in the Health and Safety of using chemicals and the adherence of COSH regulations.

6)  Collate  reports and compiling radiographs to match reports. HSE Safety requirements etc:  The apprentices will be trained in the use of electronic reporting. They will be trained in the correct methods of collating radiographs to their respective covers and reports.  The apprentices will be given training on viewing radiographs and the interpretation of the radiographs. All apprentices will undergo a full laboratory induction and will take part in regular tool box talks on Health & Safety issues and the general workings of Laboratory protocols.

Non-destructive testing engineering technician level 3. 

All training and learning will be delivered on site.

Things to consider
