What will the apprentice be doing?

Applied Inspection is offering the opportunity to become a NDT Technician Apprentice, working in the Radiography department at our Burton-on-Trent branch. This is an excellent opening for the right individual to gain valuable NDT experience and qualifications whilst working with a wide variety of components from various Industry sectors.

Qualifications and skills gained on apprenticeship include:

• PCN Level 2 – Dye Penetrant Inspection
• PCN Level 2 – Magnetic Particle Inspection
• PCN Level 2 – Radiography
• Knowledge of Specifications and Standards and how to apply these
• Product Technology in various Industry sectors
• Ability to produce written test reports and prepare NDT procedures and Technique sheets
• Use of Forklift and Overhead Crane
Key responsibilities and day to day activities will include:

• Assisting with all testing being performed in the Lab – Colour Contrast DPI, Fluorescent DPI, MPI using both Yoke and Bench unit and Radiography of welds and castings
• Loading and Unloading of deliveries, as well as ensuring components are appropriately packaged prior to collection
• Pre and post clean of components
• Making deliveries and collections using company vehicles
• General housekeeping of Lab area
• Completing study and assignments related to apprenticeship during quiet times, some home study may be required.

What we are looking for:

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths
• Ideally at least 1 A level in a science basedsubject
• An interest in Engineering
• High attention to detail
• A full driving license
The apprenticeship will be a full time role based in Burton on Trent, working hours are 08.00 – 16.30 Monday-Thursday and 08.00-15.30 Friday. Some overtime may be available.

Wages dependant on experience and will progress during the apprenticeship when each PCN qualification is gained.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Non-Destructive Testing Level 3. 

All training & learning will be delivered on site. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

A full time role as an NDT technician would be available at the end of apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Random Drug & Alcohol testing is carried out on employees. The role involves manual handling of components. Apprentice will not be able to work within Radiography bays until they are 18. For this reason the apprentice will need to be at least 17 when they begin, ideally 18. Driving License isn’t essential but would be preferable. There is no disabled access on site.
