What will the apprentice be doing?

As an apprentice you will work alongside and be supported and mentored by experienced joiners. Working for our company you will gain training in a variety of joinery works as well as being able to gain knowledge of the other trades. 

Day to day tasks will include but are not exclusive to:  

  • 1st and 2nd Fix Joinery 
  • Use of hand and power tools   
  • Handling and moving materials safely on site 
  • Maintain a safe, clean and tidy workspace  
  • Work in line with current health and safety legislation
  • Communicate with customers and other trades in a polite manner


What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Site Carpentry Level 2 apprenticeship.

What will I study?
A Site Carpenter will normally work on a building site, or in domestic and commercial premises, preparing and fixing building components, from the initial erection of a new building, through to the installation of all necessary fixtures and fittings, as well as a range of repair and maintenance activities.

Method of delivery:
Site Carpentry apprentices attend York College on block release (approximately one week per month) and work for their employer for the rest of the time. 

How will I be assessed?
An End-Point Assessment (EPA) consisting of a short written test lasting 45 minutes, delivered in a controlled invigilated environment. The test will comprise of 35 questions:

10 questions will test the core elements of the standard (e.g. health and safety, manual handling); 20 questions will test the specific elements of the chosen pathway in the standard (e.g. principles of site carpentry); and 5 questions will test the behavioural elements of the apprenticeship (e.g. effective communication, team working, logical thinking). The practical assessment will take place in a controlled environment over a minimum period of six hours and will be scored out of 100 marks.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once qualified we would expect the candidate to continue to grow and develop within our company, this would be rewarded accordingly.
