What will the apprentice be doing?

Cann Bridge School is looking for an enthusiastic sport loving candidate to complete this qualification and to work with some of the most complex learners in Plymouth. You will engage with all ages at the school in sporting and classroom-based activity. You will need to be enthusiastic about sport and supporting others to participate in sport. This role will give you the opportunity to work with children and young people across a wide age range and a wide range of abilities and to learn, in depth, about the range of strategies to support the learning of pupils with learning disabilities.

Duties for this role will include:

  • Supporting class groups and individuals in a range of PE and sporting activities under the supervision/instruction of the class teacher
  • Helping to set up and tidy away after lessons
  • Work closely with students with severe learning difficulties 
  • Attend training as required

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Over the roughly 14-month Community Activator Coach Level 2 apprenticeship standard, you will work towards the following:

Behaviours, Skills & Knowledge
Functional Skills in maths and English (if not already exempt through prior qualifications)
End-Point Assessment (EPA)
You will have regular visits at the workplace from a designated assessor to observe your progress and competence in the role you are carrying out.

 Training will take place at Plymouth Argyle. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On completion you will be fully ready to work as a PE/sport support teaching assistant in special schools or within community organisations who work with young people with disabilities and sport. This qualification will enable you to take your learning further with a teaching assistant qualification based on the experience you have gained.
