What will the apprentice be doing?

Students are taught within the resource base and also access mainstream lessons.  No two days are the same at Orchard Lodge!

As a teaching assistant at Orchard Lodge you would support the teaching staff within the base.

Orchard Lodge largely follows a primary model, where students are taught the majority of lessons in KS3 and KS4 groups.

There are opportunities for students to integrate with the main school and pupils are able to attend selected mainstream lessons supported by a teaching assistant.

Students attend work placements where they may be supported by a teaching assistant.

We have a varied Life Skills programme where we go travel training, we use our kitchen and we look after our garden.

  • Working with and supporting individuals and small groups of students on activities and within interventions.
  • Establishing supportive relationships with the students.
  • Assisting in preparing and maintaining the learning environment to support teaching staff in the development of learning strategies.

 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant
  • Functional Skills in English and maths Level 2 if required
  • End Point Assessment: Practical workplace observation; Q&A session; Professional Discussion.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Further training to specialise in specific areas of SEND.

Permanent employment within the school.
