The Old Vicarage is a family run, award winning residential home in East Devon. We care for individuals aged 65 years and above who require assistance with the aspects of daily living. We rated 'outstanding' for Caring by CQC. You will be working 24 hrs/week at the home and paid for 6 hours day release to college to complete your academic work.

    There is a pay increase every 3 months dependent on satisfactory progress reports from college and the senior care team. Double pay for bank holiday shifts worked. 6 weeks annual leave allowance a year.

    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Assisting the care team in providing personal care to residents.
  • Assisting the catering team, serving meals and refreshments to residents.
  • Participating in activities and carrying out 1:1 enabling.
  • Carrying out baths and showers
  • Taking basic observations such as weight, pulse and oxygen saturations.
  • Shift pattern is 8-2pm or 2-8pm, 4 days a week (including a day at the weekend) with a further day allocated for College attendance.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

On the completion of your apprenticeship and successful 'End point assessment' you will receive a Level 2 NVQ in Adult Social Care.  You will also receive in house training provided by the home in moving & handling, infection control, food hygiene, safeguarding etc.

You will be expected to attend the local college in Exeter, 1 day every week, to complete the academic work associated with your qualification.  The tutors will also attend the home during your apprenticeship to carry out observations and have progress meetings with the senior care team.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once you have completed the Level 2 there is the opportunity to take the Level 3 course and begin training as a Senior Care Assistant.

Things to consider

Please note that there is a very limited bus service to the home and therefore the applicant will need to be sure they can source alternative transport to be able to attend the shifts required.
