What will the apprentice be doing?
- Shadow a machinist until competent on each piece of machinery. For example your skills will be used to identify and cut the appropriate material for the application, which you will then put through a process, i.e. bore, drill, mill, turn, groove and thread.
- Pressure test hydraulic cylinders and identify faults and damaged components. Cylinders will require stripping and re-assembling once replacement parts have been manufactured.
- MIG welding will be used to for a variety of different purposes, i.e. welding new tubes or eyes to shafts. Jigs will be made on certain applications to ensure consistency.
- Make Hydraulic hoses and identify different fittings for customers. Learning how to remove and replace these parts on machinery safely.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- The apprentice will be working towards the Engineering Technician Level 3 apprenticeship standard.
- All delivered within the work place via online training and at Colchester Institute Campus.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- A chance to receive full on-the-job training throughout, by the end of the apprenticeship the candidate will be skilled in a number of different fields. As your skills and responsibilities increase so will your pay. A competent, qualified employee would hope to earn upwards of 30k/year.
