What will the apprentice be doing?
You will have the opportunity to develop new skills in building and maintenance and will develop a good understanding of how to keep our facilities safe for all users. As well as developing your skills and expertise in facilities and building management, you will have the opportunity to be fully involved in the life of the school.You will work alongside our Facilities Team to develop your skills and experience in all aspects of facilities management.
Your working hours will be Monday to Friday, 8am till 4.00pm. You will have a half-hour lunch break each day and an early finish at 3.30pm on one day per week. You will be provided with a uniform. There will be the option of working overtime on the weekends and in the evenings to support lettings.
- Duties will include:
- Carry out security procedures for grounds, premises, and their contents.
- The routine and non-routine opening and closing of premises.
- General building maintenance

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Mayfield School has an established track record of developing Apprentices who go on to join us permanently at the end of their course before progressing to roles in management. If you are successful with your Apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to become a permanent member of our Site and Facilities Team. There is
also the option of developing a particular trade and taking on a higher level Apprenticeship in a buildings related trade while being employed as a caretaker at the school.
Over 20 members of our staff originally joined us Apprentices and have now gone on to become highly valued and skilled colleagues. We are able to offer a dynamic, busy and friendly working environment as you start out on your career path.
