What will the apprentice be doing?

Day to day duties include;

  • Timber selection and sizing ready for machining.
  • Gluing and cramping to produce panels ready for further processing.
  • Interpreting drawings to produce cutting lists and rods.
  • Marking out and machining of timbers.
  • Assembling and jointing.
  • Finishing to a given standard ready for passing to paint shop.

Key responsibilities include;

  • Maintaining a clear and safe working environment.
  • Daily cleaning /sweeping of the dust extract plant and briquette manufacturing building.
  • Checking in of stock and correctly storing the items.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • The Apprentice will be working towards the Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery (Bench Joinery) Apprenticeship Standard for a duration of 24 months.
  • College attendance will be at the Colchester Institute - Colchester Campus one day per week during term time. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • This apprenticeship role can lead directly to becoming a member of our cabinet making team working on the kitchen manufacturing side of the business or working as a bench joiner producing windows and doors.
  • The Carpentry & Joinery (Bench Joinery) apprenticeship will prove to be a versatile and good basic qualification as a whole.

Things to consider

The ability to travel to and from the premises is essential, public transport is not easily accessed from our location, please consider how you would travel to the site. Occasional working at different sites may be required. Must be physically fit and able to assist with loading and unloading of timber and products.
