What will the apprentice be doing?
The successful candidate will be learn to read engineering drawings, Set and Operate from scratch, select tools and operate the Lathe/Milling Machine. They will also be involved in manufacturing new parts and repairing existing parts on manual operated lathes/milling machines.
Other duties will include:
• Reading engineering drawings
• Selecting tooling and operating the Lathe/Milling Machine
• Producing batch work and one-offs
• Selecting the cutting tools for machining operations
• Mounting and dismounting workpieces on/from lathe, milling machine
• Performing roughing and finishing operations
• Checking finished pieces to ensure compliance with technical drawings
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence. You will be expected to work towards the Engineering Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.
As part of your apprenticeship, and dependent on your prior attainment, you may be required to complete maths and English Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
This role would evolve into a trainee position once fully qualified and would work more independently become more experienced on the machines.
