What will the apprentice be doing?
- As a maintenance engineer apprentice, you will learn how to work safely
- You will be learning how to locate and rectify faults on plant and equipment. This will include inspecting and maintaining plant and equipment
- As a maintenance engineer apprentice you will also learn how to read, understand and interpret information, technical specifications and supporting documentation
- This job will mean preparing work areas and reinstating those areas after the completion of the work-related activities
- As a maintenance engineer apprentice you will learn how to assess and test the performance and condition of plant and equipment
- You will learn how to remove components assess their condition then replace or repair them, returning plant and equipment to an operational condition
- As a maintenance engineer apprentice you will also learn how to diagnose and determine the cause of faults in plant and equipment
- You will learn how to position, assemble, install and dismantle plant equipment
- Upon completion of work you will communicate, handover and confirm that the appropriate process has been completed
- As a maintenance engineer apprentice you will develop communication skills enabling you to provide information to internal and external stakeholders
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship you will be paid and day released to PETA’s Havant training facility for off-the-job training. You will learn how to work safely, work efficiently, use technical information, maintain mechanical and electrical equipment and use hand tools.
Your level 3 programme will include, a level 3 engineering workbased qualification delivered in the workplace by PETA, and day release for 24 months to complete a level 3 BTEC technical certificate.
You will be completing the level 3 maintenance operations engineering technician (MOET) standard. Overall duration is 45 months.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
This Maintenance Engineer Apprentice programme forms part of AMS’ succession planning for the future. You will be trained, supported and monitored throughout the process. Once the apprenticeship has been completed there may be a permanent position available for the right candidate.
