What will the apprentice be doing?
Under the guidance of the Laboratory Manager, the successful candidate will be expected to support all aspect of the laboratory including:
• Learn general laboratory Management and Administration including appropriate Health and Safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
• Perform laboratory based investigations and basic scientific experimentation using the appropriate scientific techniques, procedures and methods of relevance to the activities of the laboratory.
• Comply with the quality standards, safe working practices, environment and risk management systems relevant to the workplace
• Learn to manage waste disposal generated in the laboratory.
• Learn to carry out routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
• Learn to manage the laboratory consumables (budget management, stock control and recharging).
• Learn basic IT support, information security and data storage for biological sample management.
• Assist the lab manager in organising and distribution of incoming goods.
• Assist in the management of biological sample storage.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with CSR Scientific Training, where you will complete a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Standard and depending on your previous academic attainment, you will work towards either a Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science or a level 4 HNC in Applied Biology qualification.
