What will the apprentice be doing?

Working as part of the Works Department decorating team, the successful candidate will be assisting with the care and decoration of the College properties carrying out both planned and routine decoration. This will include structure, fixtures, and fittings.

-  To assist with regular routine maintenance of the College buildings including, but limited to, preparation of surfaces, sanding of surfaces, filling and priming walls (plasterwork and woodwork), undercoating, gloss work, emulsion work using brush and roller, wallpapering, paint effects, internal and external painting, spraying.

-  To cover duties of other members of staff who may be absent, if within the postholder’s capabilities

-  To prioritise approved works in order of importance and carry those out to completion to the best of your ability to ensure standard of service are maintained

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will be on a Level two painter and decorator, apprenticeship standard – delivered One day a week in Cambridge Regional College , supplemented by on-site training by Trinity College Works Department decorating team

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship course, future prospects within Trinity College could include a painter and decorator role.

Things to consider

The work includes climbing staircases in old buildings, accessing awkward areas, carrying/transporting loads, use of ladder and walking round large areas of the College. The post holder may spend periods outside in inclement weather. A uniform is provided which includes PPE. Working within Historic, grade listed buildings, on a single site of work. The apprenticeship will involve working towards a Level 2 Painting and Decorating apprenticeship which will be delivered at College on a day release basis, you will also work on site helping you to gain the vital experience needed to become a fully qualified Painter and Decorator. This is a demanding job role and apprenticeship.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team but also individually, a pro-active approach to your work is required.  Some previous painting and decorating experience would be an advantage, this can include work experience, a course or helping out with friends and family.  You be working alongside fully trained, qualified, and highly experienced staff who take a pride in their work learning all aspects of the role whilst following a formal Painting and Decorating apprenticeship.
