What will the apprentice be doing?

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, friendly and supportive individual to join our Finance team in Syston as an Apprentice.

As part of your role you will be afforded 1 day a week study leave
(paid) and the opportunity to study for your AAT level 3 qualification.

The role will assist in the financial processing of several elements of Compass Community finances, predominantly related to our Fostering services and support the wider finance function with various admin tasks as required.

Main Duties:

Accounts Payable processing including:

  • Processing supplier invoices in the correct group company.
  • Ensuring accurate ledger coding.
  • Ensuring invoices are authorised & paid in accordance with group policies.
  • Ensuring regular supplier statement reconciliations are performed and supplier queries are dealt with efficiently.
  • Expenses.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Level 3

This level is ideal for existing staff or new talent in an accounting or finance role. Their work could include assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements.

You will be studying the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. This level will encourage you to master more complex accounting principles in both Bookkeeping and Management Accounting. You will study 5 units:  

Financial Accounting; Preparing Financial Statements (FAPS). 
Management Accounting Techniques (MATS). 
Tax Processes for Business (TPFB). 
Business Awareness (BUAW). 
Advanced Synoptic Assessment (ADSY) which forms part of your End Point Assessment.
Training will be provided by attending either face-to-face classroom based lessons, Live Online sessions or OnDemand. An apprenticeship has to be relevant to the job you are undertaking and you must dedicate 20% of your time towards it.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We have previously had 1 AAT level 3 apprentice at Compass who is now assistant management accountant and would be line manager
for these apprentices.

From the finance team there are opportunities to progress to a full finance assistant with responsibilities for all transactional processing for a legal entity.

Beyond that assistant management accountant has responsibility for business partnering with key stakeholders and preparation of monthly management accounts.
