What will the apprentice be doing?
This requires interpretating drawings and technical instructions and the use of hand, machine and CNC machine tools and measuring equipment. If you want to become a highly skilled machinist manufacturing complex, precision parts and components from specialist materials using machine tools and hand fitting techniques this is the role for you.
- You will learn how to receive and check materials ensuring that they are available and correct
- As a Toolmaking engineering apprentice you will become competent using engineering drawings and technical specifications to set and operate machinery
- You will learn how to assemble and build mould tools, using handfitting techniques finishing tools to a high standard
- Follow processes and use proven techniques, including setting up work holding using chucks, fixtures and vices and specialist tooling
- As a Toolmaking engineering apprentice you will become competent planning how to complete milling/turning operations, entering programming data into CNC Mills and Lathes
- Become competent programming, setting and operating CNC machinery
- As a Toolmaking engineering apprentice you will gain experience taking responsibility for adjusting a range of machining parameters to maximise machining outcomes producing products with a high degree of accuracy and finish, ensuring quality standards are achieved
- You will become competent using conventional mechanical measuring equipment including Vernier’s, Micrometre’s to check that work is correct
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
When your formal CNC machining engineering apprenticeship starts you will be paid and day-released to PETA in Havant for the duration of your programme. This will start by learning how to work safely, efficiently and use technical information. You will also learn how to use manual lathes and Mills, CNC lathes and mills as well as use hand fitting and assembly skills. Additionally you will learn how to use Computer Aided Design systems and undertake improvement activities. You will go on to complete a Level 3 Technical Diploma and NVQ.
