Our Apprentice will learn the procedures and techniques required to fulfill an Engineering Machinist role by working with and observing the experienced Machinists. This will be provided by on the job training with an experienced mentor and day release to Loughborough College.

Monday-Friday. 8am – 4.30pm (includes 1x 30 min unpaid lunch break & 2x15 min paid tea breaks). 25 days per annum plus 8 statutory days (pro rata for part time).

What will the apprentice be doing?
Duties include:
- Read and understand engineering drawings
- Use various hand and power tools
- Become familiar with the use of a variety of measuring equipment, micrometers etc
- De-burr/polish finished parts
- Maintain the machine shop and machines as required
- Manual Turning
- Setting and Running CNC Machine Tools (in line with your capability/ progression)
- Work alongside/observe other engineering areas including; inspection and design (CAD) to broaden and underpin general engineering knowledge
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Engineering Technician (Machinist - Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Pathway)
- L2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
- L2 Diploma in Machining (Foundation Knowledge)
- L3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Machining
- L3 Diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)
Currently delivered 2 days per week (Term Time Only) at College, in Years 1 and 2 and then 1 day per week in final year.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
You could become a Machine Tool CNC Setter / Operator. QMS has had much success in the recruitment and retention of apprentices across the business.
