What will the apprentice be doing?

You will be required to carry out duties such as laying bricks, paving stones, checking alignments throughout each stage but you will also learn how to work with timber frames and block brickwork.

As an apprentice, you will learn how to use hand tools, machinery and power tools associated with bricklaying. In this particular role, you will need to show attention to detail when cutting and aligning brickwork and slabs, and be prepared to do some labouring to assist Ben whilst on site.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 2 Bricklayer Standard
  • Construction Skills Health, Safety and Environment test – CSCS Test
    As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On completion of your Level 2 apprenticeship with Ben, you will have the opportunity to go self employed.

You will need to be physically fit for and have plenty of stamina for this role, which will involve working indoors and outdoors mainly on new building developments in Launceston.

About the employer

Ben Sleep Bricklaying is a small gang who work predominantly on new build sites around Launceston and other areas around Cornwall. Ben has taken apprentice with Skills Group in the past and has a passion for passing on his knowledge and skills to more apprentices.
