    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Job purpose:

To ensure the smooth running of the office as well as providing a good level of customer care to clients and good communication skills with colleagues and work associates.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Typing of letters/ correspondence with clients
  2. Prepare property details/ window cards
  3. Register new applicants
  4. Respond to and follow up sales enquiries by phone, post and personal visits
  5. Inform applicants of additional services
  6. Show clients properties available for sale
  7. Ensure stationary is ordered and up to date
  8. Email weekly adverts, social marketing
  9. Update weekly/ monthly stats

10.Liaise with solicitors/ surveyors etc to encourage a trouble free sale

11.Instruction of boards to be put up/ down

12.Market appraisal preparation

13.Attend training and to develop relevant knowledge and skills

14. Organisation of the office

15. File handling in organised and structured way.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Organised, methodical, neat with excellent communication skills.  Candidates must be confident using the telephone.  A full driving licence would be a benefit.

Qualifications required

GCSE Grade C in Maths and English or equivalent.

Future prospects

Following successful completion of the apprenticeship, candidates maybe offered a further apprenticeship or a full time position.

Things to consider

From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Training provider

The successful candidate will study the NCFE Level 2 Business Administration Apprenticeship Framework. This includes Health & Safety, Roles and Responsibilities and a Technical Certificate. Candidates that do not hold GCSE Grade C or equivalent in Maths, English and ICT will be required to sit Functional Skills in these subjects
