Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
The successful candidate will assist, supervise and lead, planned play activities, as directed by nursery staff. You will also assist in planning, learning and development activities for children at the nursery and carry out planned and spontaneous observations on children, as directed by staff.
In addition, you will assist, as directed, in maintaining and implementing children’s individual learning plans and targets and work as part of a team and follow instructions from staff. You will develop an understanding of the requirements of the EYFS and to apply this understanding when supporting children in their care, learning and development.
Part of your role will also include developing an understanding of the nursery’s policies and procedures and applying this understanding at all times, when working at the nursery. You will undertake short courses and internal training as required, assist in caring for children with special education or additional needs and carrying out any other duties, as required.
Requirements and prospects
The successful candidate will have a commitment and enthusiasm for the care and education of young children and babies. You will have a calm and patient approach to working with children and an ability to work under pressure in a demanding fast paced environment.
Along with this, you will have an interest in learning about all aspects of how babies and children learn and develop and learning about different approaches to the behaviour management of young children.
You will also have an enjoyment of supervising a range of activities including music, physical play and arts and crafts activities and an interest in contributing ideas for activities and bringing new ideas to develop the nursery routines and activities.
The successful candidate will be extremely reliable and punctual, have a friendly and outgoing personality, with an enjoyment of working closely with team colleagues and other adults. You will have a flexible approach to working and in particular to daily routines and tasks.
GCSE A*-C Maths and English or equivalent are preferred for the position.

Most aspects of the qualification and training will be delivered at your workplace where you will be supported throughout your training by your employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will help you, and monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve Emergency and Paediatric First Aid, and a Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
