This is an exciting opportunity for someone to learn all aspects of our part of the Kaplan Publishing business and be involved in the day to day operation of a fast moving and developing environment for our services.

Working as part of the purchasing and stock control team gain knowledge in all aspects of stock purchase, stock control, distribution and warehousing.  Plus, you would be involved in our expanding ‘Specials’ business where we supply both internal and external customers with non-core items.

Stock Control:

Working with the stock controller take part in checking, counting and reconciling actual to computer stock figures.

In House Computer Systems:

Become efficient in the operation of the in-house computer system (Navision) in all of the areas associated with stock control, stock purchase and system management.

Stock Purchase – Procurement:

To ensure stock availability working with the purchasing team team on ‘Just in Time’ service.

Liaising with our suppliers as necessary on delivery dates as required to ensure delivery to meet business need.

Warehousing:

Undertake training in all aspects of warehousing operations, including pick and pack, scanning, goods inwards, stock location and health and safety.

Distribution:

To gain knowledge in all aspects of distribution services to the UK and overseas.

Things to consider

Receive stock and maintain stock levels accurately and deal with adhoc requests for stock items. To understand all the distribution channels and why each one is chosen To be able to use Navision effectively to order stock, produce reports and locate items and stock invoicing. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
