As the salon apprentice your role will encompass all areas of the salon. You will meet and greet clients in reception. You will make sure every element of the clients experience is met. As a hairdressing apprentice, you will be responsible for:

  • Making sure the salon is kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • sweep up hair.
  • Polish mirrors.
  • Make sure all shelves are clean and fully stocked.
  • washing and conditioning hair and learning the various blow-drying techniques, moving on to learn about colour, by starting to mix up and prepare colour to assist the stylists with the application of colour.

You're role will develop through shadowing and learning from the more senior stylists.  As you're develop skills you will start learning basic cutting techniques.

Qualifications required

You will have Maths and/or English A-C (9-4) GCSEs (or equvalient)  - the other will be no lower than a D(3)

Future prospects

We will help to guide and support you to grow within our business with a view to you having your own clients and column once you are fully qualified. You can expect full support in your career as a hairdresser and any interest in competition work is encouraged.

Things to consider

From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Training provider

Courtyard will help and support you through your training we will guide you through basic colouring and cutting skills as well as how the business works. We will train you on reception duties for understanding on how bookings, bills etc work, although this will not be involved in your day to day role at the salon. We will set you up with a buddy scheme so that you will work closely and be guided by one colourist and stylist helping maintain a standard of learning and a rapport between you and your buddy so that you feel comfortable in your new skills and your learning.

You will also attend Kingston College 1 day per week where you will work towards your Level 2 in Hair and functional skills where necessary.
