Responsibilities of the Apprentice IT Support Technician:

  • Basic problems like the user not being able to log in, monitor not coming on etc.
  • Basic problems like users not being able to print, replacing printer cartridges etc.
  • Ensure all servers run smoothly for daily access
  • Ensure remote VPN and email access is working
  • Be a contact for Bright Visions who have server support covering all servers (except RL94). Should problems occur with the backups or servers they will contact us to propose a fix
  • Setting up a brand new install of Windows and setting up the user and all programs to work on the network
  • Support users with software use
  • Help users if they need to know how to use software e.g show a user how to setup an Excel spreadsheet with formulas
  • Support with In house Order Processing Package
  • Help users, manage queries and provide assistance as required
  • Assist in the maintenance of the website. Working with Senior Management to update Web content
  • Ensure email is working, accessible from both internal and external. Add / remove users as necessary and amend group email membership
  • Work with Management to help project professional image across Social media applications such as twitter. Regular content updates required

Qualifications required

Someone with ideally 5 GCSE grades (C and above) or equivalent, including Mathematics and English.

Future prospects

92% of QA Apprentices secure permanent employment after finishing their apprenticeship. Additionally there may be opportunities to undertake further apprenticeship training as many of our programmes offer on-going development tracks.

Things to consider

From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
