    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • To work to an agreed development plan gaining knowledge, understanding and proficiency in a busy Community/Arts Centre environment.
  • Design, produce and distribute marketing materials inc leaflets, posters, social media sites etc.
  • Assist in various capacities at events held in the two centres.
  • Liaise with local designers and printers in production of publicity, promotional and advertising material.
  • Deliver promotional, advertising and marketing material to outlets throughout the City including social clubs, public sites, community venues, shops, clubs, cafes etc.
  • Working on reception desk, meeting and greeting centre users.
  • Assist in the development of promotional and advertising campaigns.
  • Maintaining records and databases of audiences, users, suppliers, contacts etc.
  • General and financial administration relating to marketing function, including raising orders, checking invoices, selling tickets, cash handling.
  • Maintaining and developing the Centres’ websites.
  • Promoting and advertising activities and events using different forms of media, including, printed material, social media, word of mouth, website, news media etc.
  • To liaise and share information with other colleagues.
  • Undertaking the apprenticeship training and attending other appropriate learning opportunities both in house and with external providers.

Things to consider

The post will be appointed to Harraby Community Centre but it is envisaged that the postholder will spend 2 days a week working on behalf of Carlisle City Council on Old Fire Station projects and 3 days a week in Harraby Community Centre. From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
