Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

With most people struggling to find the time to get things done, a Vehicle Fitting Apprentice plays a vital role in the automotive industry. 

Customers need to know their vehicle can be worked on, quickly, efficiently and to the highest standards.

As an Apprentice vehicle fitter, you will work alongside a qualified Vehicle Fitter, learning a trade vital to todays fast paced society

Duties will include;

  • Checking, repairing and replacing tyres
  • Carrying out steering geometry checks to ensure they are within manufacturer specifications
  • You will also be working on braking, steering, suspension and exhaust systems
  • Most importantly, dealing with customers


Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will gain a Level 2 framework in Vehicle Fitting qualification, and be a fully qualified Vehicle Fitter.

Qualifications required

Ideally, you will have, or be predicted to gain, good GCSE’s (or equivalent) in English and Maths, although these are not essential. 

However, you must be literate and numerate.

Positive points • As a Vehicle Fitter, you will have a number of transferable skills. • Customer satisfaction, and meeting targets is highly rewarding, and gives great job satisfaction Negative points • This is a physically demanding role, being active for long periods throughout the day • You may be expected to work Saturday’s on a rota basis From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Your apprenticeship will last approximately 2 years, working towards a VRQ and VCQ in Vehicle Fitting.

During this time, you will attend residential block release training at our state of the art Training Centre in Shrewsbury for a total of 10 weeks.
