Civil Service apprentices have an unrivalled opportunity to learn the valuable skills and experience they’ll need to develop excellent careers in project management.

You’ll be working with experienced project delivery professionals from day one and have the opportunity to learn from their experience. You’ll work across a range of roles gathering some core skills which may include project reporting, project risk or project finance.

  • are positive, proactive and make the most of the opportunities available

  • can collaborate and work as part of a team to deliver successful outcomes
  • are ambitious, take responsibility and make things happen
  • have great verbal and written communication skills
  • have good organisation skills with an eye for detail
  • are open to new challenges are able to see the bigger picture

Qualifications required

You’ll need 5 GCSEs, at grade C and above, or the new grade 4 and above, including English Language and Maths, or equivalent. You’ll also need 2 A levels, at grade D and above, in any subject. (Or expect to have these qualifications by 31 August 2017.)

You’ll also need to check you meet the general entry requirements, such as age, nationality and residency.

You’ll take the Level 4 associate project manager apprenticeship standard.

The learning programme lasts for approximately 2 years. You’ll spend 80% of the time in your role and 20% doing classroom training, online learning, project simulations and challenges, assignments, and meetings with your personal coach, mentor, workplace adviser or buddy.

Whilst you’ll get some study leave you will also be expected to study in your own time, particularly around exam time and when you have assignments and portfolio evidence to submit.

To achieve your Level 4 apprenticeship certificate (a qualification in its own right) you’ll need to pass 2 written exams (which lead to your PMQ qualification), produce a portfolio of evidence that shows your competence in the learning areas of the apprenticeship standard, give a 20 minute presentation on your portfolio and have a discussion with an assessment panel.
