    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Duties include:

  • Working as part of a team creating a positive working environment
  • Assisting qualified staff with preparation, cooking and finishing of food
  • Keeping the kitchen hygienically clean and tidy at all times
  • Washing kitchen appliances, work surfaces, floors and walls
  • Deal with customer payments
  • Deliver excellent customer service
  • Ensure Health and Safety guidelines are met at all times

Level 2 qualification in the catering/hospitality sector is desired but not essential.

Future prospects

A fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship with a potential full time position available at the completion of the apprentice for the right candidate.

Things to consider

This role will involve working with heated equipment The kitchen area can sometimes be a very busy and stressful environment Weekend work is essential. The completion of a 3 day work trial is essential for potential candidates. From the 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
