    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Little Garden aims to support apprentices by providing work based experience along with guidance and support. Apprentices will work alongside the nursery staff team and will adhere to policies, procedures and guidelines provided for them. Apprentices must be with a qualified member of staff at all times. Apprentices will never be solely responsible children. Apprentices must adhere to the leadership of the nursery manager.

Job responsibilities: 

  • To work as part of the nursery team to ensure the smooth day to day running of the setting
  • To ensure all training (both apprenticeship, nursery and externally provided) are attended
  • To learn and implement the Little Garden policies and procedures within the nursery
  • To work to agreed timelines  
  • To work with all age groups in the setting
  • To never be left unsupervised with the children 
  • To demonstrate flexibility in working at other settings in the Little Garden group
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach using initiative and showing resilience to take responsibility for getting things done
  • To ensure all work linked to apprenticeship and Little Garden are kept up to date 
  • To ensure EYFS guidelines are followed when caring for our children
  • To support and promote diversity and equality 
  • To develop a good understanding of child development and how this is important when caring for children 
  • To support and be an active part of the Little Garden team in carrying out daily routines in the nursery
  • To learn and develop the skills required to be an excellent nursery practitioner
  • To demonstrate a passion for learning and delivering high quality childcare to our children
