We are seeking an apprentice to train as a professional chef with us, in our busy base kitchen as well as with our chefs out on the road at events. You will be responsible and receive full training in a number of important areas and also learn basic knife skills. In more detail these are:

  • Maintaining safe working practices
  • Maintaining food hygiene standards
  • Kitchen and larder management
  • Vegetable and meat preparation
  • Cold Prep
  • Starters, mains and deserts preparation and cooking service
  • Event preparation
  • Food delivery to site from base kitchen
  • Kitchen set up and dismantling
  • Food presentation

As with all positions, you will start with the basics and be given more responsibility as you acquire skills and we are quite happy to move you on if you come with existing skills and / or experience and you will receive full support from your Mentor and the management team throughout.

Ideally, due to the busy nature of the role, we'd like someone with bags of energy and full of beans, but also someone that can stay calm and collected under pressure. If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you!

Future prospects

This is a chance to work closely with - and be inspired by - your head chef. You can learn so much in this role and the inspiration you get is brilliant, especially in a really good kitchen. As you progress through the apprenticeship there may be incentives for outstanding performance, and upon successful completion there is certainly the opportunity to remain and progress within the company for the right candidate.

Things to consider

The hours, especially around events can be quite long, but these are certainly rewarded! The Events are also naturally run 7 days a week, so flexibility is a must. I would also like to point out that we are a little out of the way with no real bus route near by, and due to the nature of the role it would be beneficial if you had a driver's license and your own transport. We are able to support the right candidate with lifts to and from events (location dependant) so this is not mandatory, but is certainly preferred. From the 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
