We are an Arboricultural Association approved contractor based in Playhatch, Berkshire. Our aim is to achieve the perfect balance between trees and the environment.

Reports to: Foreman

Job purpose and duties:

  • This role will be physically demanding but rewarding
  • Driving trucks to/from site and assisting in the clearing of debris from our works
  • As you progress, you will be taught to use machinery such as hedge cutters, chainsaws, chippers and cherry-pickers
  • You will also be trained how to climb trees, complete pruning and felling operations

  • Full, clean driving licence is essential and a minimum age of 18 due to the requirement of driving fleet vehicles between work sites

The successful applicant will be enrolled on a Level 2 Arborist Apprenticeship with Berkshire College of Agriculture. The two year programme comprises ten block weeks of training at the college, along with on the job training and assessments every six weeks.

The following licence to practice qualifications would be required prior to end point assessment:

  • Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work
  • Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Brushwood Chipper
  • Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance
  • Level 2 Award in Crosscutting Timber Using a Chainsaw
  • Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm
  • Level 2 Award in Accessing a Tree Using a Rope and Harness
  • Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Rescue Operations
  • Level 3 Award in Aerial Cutting of Trees Using Free Fall Techniques
  • Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Mobile Elevated Work Platform
  • Level 3 Award in Use of a Chainsaw from a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP)
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths (depending on previous qualifications)

Your training:

During your time at Beechwood Tree Care you will be collating evidence of learning, be observed and receive training as to how we do things. This is averaged over a 24 month period and includes time spent at the beginning of the programme completing ‘sign-up’ and Functional Skills assessment.

An assessor will visit you in the work-place every six weeks. You will attend Berkshire College of Agriculture on a block release programme.
