As an Early Years Apprentice you will be required to work as part of our small friendly team. You will be providing care for babies and children from 0-5 years and will contribute to a positive and stimulating environment, engaging in play, supporting learning and meeting their individual care needs.

Duties may include:

  • Assisting staff to ensure children’s individual needs are met and care routines are carried out. Such as nappy changing, washing hands, cleaning faces, supporting with potty and toilet training
  • Taking part in fun, engaging activities, to enhance & support children’s development.
  • Interacting positively with children, parents, visitors and other staff members
  • Supporting with ideas for activities & planning. Creating displays
  • Carrying out domestic duties to ensure the smooth running of the nursery
  • Meeting and greeting of children and parents
  • Assisting children at mealtimes and preparing a hygienic environment
  • Help to provide children with stimulating activities that relate to their interests, and which promote development
  • Preparing crafts and activities and helping to create a warm, safe and positive environment
  • To work with experienced staff using them as a positive role models
  • Ensuring children are within a safe, caring environment following the safeguarding policy and procedures
  • Keeping accurate records in line with nursery policies (with support) & supervision
  • To be a positive role model for children
  • To attend regular classes once a month in our hub in Nottingham City Centre for support with your written work

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

We are looking for a caring person who enjoys playing with children & encouraging them to learn through play. Somebody who will help them to try new things, to comfort them when they hurt their knees and make them laugh whilst playing peek a boo.

Personal qualities

We are looking for somebody who doesn’t mind getting messy, who loves to look at books with children, to play games and will have a positive outlook and show enthusiasm.

Desired qualifications

GCSEs at grades D/3 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English, however this is not essential. 

Future prospects

Upon completion of the level Two, there will be an opportunity to further study towards the level 3 Early Years Educator subject to your performance in the nursery. 

Things to consider

All staff who wish to work in an Early Years setting will require a DBS check. The nursery will carry this out as part of their pre-employment checks.


About the employer

Bramcote Day Nursery is part of the family owned Wollaton Village Day Nursery Ltd. It opened in 1995 and operates from a single storey building in the village of Bramcote, close to the A52 and within easy reach of both Nottingham and Derby.

A maximum of 52 children may attend the nursery at any one time. There is a baby room to cater for babies and crawlers up to the age of eighteen months, a toddler room for children up to 3 years and an area for the pre-school children.

Children are grouped according to age and developmental stage. All children have access to a secure outdoor area which offers a hard play and grassed surface and when weather permits the facility makes use of nearby parks.

There are seven staff who work directly with the children. Five of these, including the Manager, have relevant early year’s qualifications. We have an Area Manager who holds Early Years Professional Status.

The nursery is open each weekday from 7:30 to 18:00 throughout the year, closing only for Bank Holidays.

Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 2 Early Years Practitioner qualification
  • Functional Skills in maths and English if needed. 
  • First Aid 

You will work towards the apprenticeship standard and level 2 Early years qualification. Futures have a blended approach. You skills coach will visit you in the nursery and also hold sessions over Microsoft Teams. You will attend regular teaching and learning sessions where you will be supported to develop your knowledge and skills.
