What is the purpose of this role?

  • To be trained to do the same post as a Nursery Practitioner
  • To contribute a high quality caring environment for children
  • This includes creating warm, friendly and stimulating atmosphere in which the children can develop emotionally, socially and educationally through individual attention and group activities

Key areas:

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Attend college and completing assignments on time
  • To attend Room and Staff meetings and imputing ideas
  • Under supervision, provide all aspects of care for children including washing, changing and feeding
  • To assist with meeting the personal and emotional needs of individual children
  • To provide adult interaction with children in the nursery
  • To be aware of the nurseries policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to
  • To be aware of who our safeguarding officer, inco and health and safety officer are

Team work:

  • Support all staff and engage in a good staff team
  • To attend ALL out of working hours activities, eg training, monthly staff meetings, parents evenings, etc.
  • To input and contribute to ideas regarding implementation of policies and procedures such as Early Years Foundation Stage

General:

  • Contribute to good standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the nursery
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by the trainee’s supervisor from time to time
  • The apprentice duties must at all times be carried out in compliance with the nursery’s Equal opportunity Policy
  • Look upon the children as a “whole” where can your help be most utilised? Be constantly aware of the needs of the children
  • To respect the confidentiality of information received
  • To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development
  • To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold its standards at all times
  • To be aware of all fire and evacuation procedures
  • To be aware of sections 7 and 8 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • To understand that as part of training you will be required to move to other departments in the nursery to gain knowledge and experience of all age ranges
  • To be flexible in hours and duties in order to meet the needs and requirements of the nursery
  • All staff have a duty to safeguard and protect children from harm, neglect and abuse by following the child protection policy and updating their knowledge often
  • Ensuring they are aware of the Child Protection Officer and liaise with the Child Protection Officer when appropriate

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE A*-C/9-4 in mathematics and English or equivalent are preferred but not essential
  • A L2 Childcare qualification would be advantageous if wanting to do the L3 childcare qualification

Future prospects

  • For all candidates (Level 2 or Level 3), there is the potential to be offered a full time Nursery Practitioner position. Ability to progress within the company with time and experience
