Our projects range from small, exclusive developments through to large scale strategic residential provisions of 5,000 homes. The candidate will learn and develop by supporting current staff with their day-to-day duties and responsibilities.

Role Requirements

Your role involves supporting senior colleagues to work with clients and stakeholders, such as local highway authorities, to help formulate appropriate technical solutions to facilitate development projects.

The approach taken must be informed by a good appreciation of the issues concerning planning and development as well as a sound technical understanding of engineering design.

The particular attributes needed to undertake the role include:

  • Appreciation of design delivery, including the multidisciplinary aspects of design
  • Assisting in assessment and appraisal of sites in terms of their suitability for development, identifying constraints and impacts as well as opportunities for mitigation
  • Undertaking site visits to gather information and data
  • Commissioning data from external suppliers, checking and collating for use/ presentation
  • Appreciation and use of appropriate industry software
  • Analysing and interpreting data using mathematical techniques and specialist computer applications
  • Assisting the project team including, scoping, financial, programme and resource management
  • Assisting with line management duties for junior staff members
  • Preparing planning and design deliverable packages for professional submission, including drawings, reports and analyses
  • Helping to communicate findings to clients and other stakeholders, including members of the public

Desired qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 including maths (grade B/8), English and science or their equivalent. Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to have achieve this prior to taking the end point assessment

What is delivered?

  • BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering

Consist of 10 units:

  • 7 mandatory units
  • 3 optional units

How is it delivered?

Day release for 18-24 months, this will include face to face deliver, remote learning opportunities and will also have practical elements to support the development of the Apprentices skills.

End Point Assessment (EPA)

Stage 1- A project which will test the apprentice’s ability to integrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours acquired during the apprenticeship by developing a response to a technical project brief set by the Professional Engineering Institution, with a number of options and a rationale for the choice of one as the optimum solution.

A written report of 1400-1600 words which demonstrates how, in the course of their apprenticeship, the apprentice has integrated the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to be a competent Civil Engineering Technician. The report is verified by a professionally qualified engineer and will be used to inform the structured interview.

Stage 2- A 10-minute presentation by the apprentice to the Assessor Panel showcasing their response to the project brief. This will be followed by 10-15 minutes of questions and discussion.
