As part of this role you will be required to study towards the Carpentry and Joinery (Site Carpentry) Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard at Colchester Institute. College attendance for this course will be 1 day per week at the Colchester Campus.

The apprentice will be trained in all key carpentry works including:

  • Assist a shopfitter with construction and remodelling projects
  • Help construct metal/timber partitions (S9-Site Carpenter)
  • Plasterboard/drylining
  • Installation of suspended ceilings
  • Flooring works
  • First and second fixed carpentry
  • Building and moving of shop fit fixtures and fittings
  • Decorating works
  • Minor demolition
  • Fitting of iron-mongering
  • Install of kitchen units
  • Attend courses on carpentry/shopfitting
  • Learn and practice essential carpentry skills on the job
  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • Set up and maintain tools for your supervising shopfitter

  • Essential: GCSEs or equivalent, grades A*-D/9-3 including maths and English.
  • All candidates will be required to complete Colchester Institute's mandatory initial assessment process before being put forward to the company. This will consist of online assessments.

Future prospects

  • Successful candidates will have the chance to progress from apprentice to shopfitter and grow within the company

Things to consider

  • There will be periods of staying away from home, but you would still be able to attend college courses.
  • Will be required to travel to or work at various places of work as directed by your manager as your work must inevitably be conducted either ‘on site’ with a customer, associate or client.
