The role of the apprentice production chef is to learn the basics of food preparation within a commercial kitchen assisting in food preparation in line with the standards of The Urban Kitchen. 

Duties:

  • Assist and support with day to day food preparation
  • Receive and prepare produce and ingredients to the required standard
  • Assist in the preparation of dishes finished to the required standard
  • Play your part in the good order and management of the kitchen
  • Work within all current food safety regulations
  • Check all food deliveries for accuracy and quality
  • Adhere to stock rotation standards
  • Washing of cutlery and equipment used.

No qualifications are required but 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C /9-4 (or equivalent) would be beneficial.

Things to consider

Will only consider candidates with a true passion for food production.

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £4.30 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £6.45 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.70 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

In our tea rooms we offer a wide selection of homemade cakes and scones, beautiful teas and coffees. We also prepare and serve Breakfast and hot snacks, all to eat in or take away.

We cater for various dietary requirements for children, toddlers and babies, and we also specialise in Vegan and gluten free products.
