At Starlings Preschool we have an outstanding reputation in delivering high quality childcare. This is an exciting opportunity to complete your apprenticeship within a small, friendly setting. We are looking for someone who is passionate and enthusiastic about beginning their career in childcare. You will need to take this role seriously and be able to demonstrate a good work ethic and be able to communicate effectively with the people around you, making sure that you treat both other staff and children with respect and care at all times. Your responsibilities and duties will involve:

  • Assisting in providing a safe environment for children
  • Able to support children’s behaviour and act as a role model
  • Support in ensuring the environment is stimulating and appropriate including layout, display of resources, displays and equal opportunities
  • The role will require you to take observations and “wow” moments on individual children
  • You will be expected to follow their policies for confidentiality and to report appropriate information regarding children and their backgrounds to the Manager of any concerns

Whilst working at the preschool you must take into consideration the individual needs of the children respecting, race, religion and culture, along with having an awareness of social needs and being sympathetic to their emotional needs.

About the employer

Starlings is a preschool providing excellent Early Years Child Care and Education for children below school age and over the age of 2 years.  We have been running since 1994 and are based on the grounds of the Manor Field Infant and Junior School sites in Haydn Road, Basingstoke.  Most of our staff are mothers themselves and are all qualified to NVQ Level 3 or above.  We are extremely proud of our Ofsted "OUTSTANDING" rating and follow the EYFS framework for learning where your child will learn through play.

The Level 2 Early Years Practitioner is found in a range of private and public settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre-schools, reception classes, playgroups, nursery schools, home based provision, hospitals, social care settings and out of school environments.

The purpose of the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner is to work and interact directly with children on a day-to-day basis supporting the planning and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes within the ethos of the setting. Learners should work as part of a professional team ensuring the welfare and care for children under the guidance and supervision of an Early Years Educator, teacher, or other suitably qualified professional the Early Years Workforce. 

 The learner is responsible for supporting child initiated and adult led activities based around the needs and interests of each individual child, supporting children’s learning through planned, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes, and working as part of a team to ensure each child feels safe and secure. They will also have a responsibility for ensuring that they recognise when a child is in danger and/or at risk of serious harm or abuse and contributing to the health and safety of the children, staff, and others on the premises. 

Learners without Level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this and take the test for Level 2 English and maths prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.

End Point Assessment Process

The Level 2 Early Year Practitioner consists of two discrete assessment methods:

  • Professional discussion
  • Knowledge test

The performance of the learners End Point Assessment will determine their overall apprenticeship standard and grade.
