SJ Root & Co Ltd are looking for apprentices to join our team to work on sites in the East Anglia region. We are seeking individuals who have a passion and interest in carpentry. You will receive on the job training and your week will be split 80/20. You will work 4 days a week with an experienced carpenter. One day a week you will attend college.

As part of this role you will be required to study towards the Carpentry & Joinery (Site Carpentry) Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard at Colchester Institute.
Key duties will include;
- Carrying out on site tasks as instructed by your supervisor/mentor
- You will be learning all areas of carpentry e.g. roofing, joisting, 1st and 2nd fix, cladding, finals
- Understanding and adhering to health and safety on site
- Learning how to use tools correctly and safely
- Gaining knowledge and evidence to use towards your NVQ

Desired qualifications
- Essential: GCSE grades 3/D or above in maths and English (or equivalents)
- All candidates will be required to complete Colchester Institute's mandatory initial assessment process before being put forward to the company. This will consist of online assessments.
Future prospects

- To develop skills, knowledge and expertise in all aspects of carpentry.
- Salary will potentially go up depending on work quality.
- Potential progression towards having a team under you or becoming a supervisor.
Things to consider
- You will need to travel to site so having a driving license or learning to drive is preferable.
- Must be resilient to the weather as some work will be outdoors.

About the employer
S J Root and Co Ltd are a family run business which was started in 1996. Our office is in High Garrett Braintree. We have approximately 160 carpenters who work on sites all over the East Anglia region. We carry out all carpentry work for new build homes for developers on sites such as Redrow Homes, Bovis Homes, Persimmon Homes, Hill Partnerships, Taylor Wimpey, Bellway Homes etc. We pride ourselves in delivering a high standard of work which gives customers the quality they would expect in a new build home.
