Working under guidance of PE Lead and Deputy Head to work towards TA Level 3 with PE responsibilities. This is an excellent opportunity to work with pupils from Reception through to Year 2 whilst also being given the opportunity to share your own expertise and think creatively about how to help the school move forward with PE.

Duties will include:

  • Apply knowledge and understanding of relevant areas of the curriculum or age range or SEN, in supporting teaching, learning and development of pupils
  • Be involved in and contribute to whole school policy development
  • The post has some responsibility for physical resources, through safe/secure record keeping and maintenance/management of learning resources
  • Use specialist knowledge, expertise, training to provide appropriate and differentiated support to pupils
  • Support families to respond to pupils needs
  • Observe and promote pupil performance and development
  • Co-ordinate and organise pupils attending extra curricular activities including helping and organising lunchtime activities to encourage active lunchtimes
  • Support pupils within the classroom under the guidance of class teacher
  • Set up of PE resources for class teachers
  • Model good practice and contribute to planning and delivery of PE within school
  • Be able to work in a variety of school settings and at different key stages
  • Further raise the profile and enjoyment of sport within the school community
  • Support the PE Leader in organising the participation of students in schools activities, school clubs and tournaments/competitions (both internal and external)
  • Attend cluster meetings with PE lead
  • Become an active part of our team, prepared to go the extra mile for the benefit of our school community
  • Follow school policies and behave professionally
  • Maintain confidentiality inside and outside the workplace

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Have a detailed understanding of at least one area of the curriculum
  • Have experience of working to support children/pupils learning
  • Have understanding and experience of ICT as a learning tool and be able to use this in the classroom
  • Have an understanding of schools policies and how they relate to local and national framework/policies for learning
  • Basic knowledge of First Aid if possible though training can be given
  • Confident building and maintaining relationships with young children
  • Be pro-active in offering ideas and contribute to whole school review
  • Able to adapt teaching styles to the needs of groups or individual pupils

Desired qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 4 (C) or equivalent in English and maths
  • Hold a recognised and relevant qualification at NVQ level 2 (or equivalent) or have evidence of equivalent knowledge and experience

Future prospects

A permanent position may become available upon completion of training depending on attitude and performance during the apprenticeship.
