Bicton College is looking to recruit an apprentice to join our equine team.
Duties will include caring for a wide variety of horses along with varied day to day activities. You will be part of a busy college yard, supporting college learners and assisting the team with running events at the college where required.
The ideal candidate must be someone willing to working at weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis as well as working with some flexibility to meet business needs
The main duties will include:
- Mucking/skipping out
- Turning out/ bringing in horses
- Feeding
- Changing rugs
- Assisted clipping
- Exercising various horses (riding & lunging depending on experience)
- Tacking up
- Bathing
- Loading and unloading horses onto horse walker
- Competition preparations
- Grooming for riders at equine events or helping college events run smoothly
- Assisting instructors and managers during clinic/events
- General field maintenance
- Assisting with general running and managing yard duties
- Working with other college learners

Desired qualifications
GCSE grades C/4 and above for English and maths to meet course entry requirement.
NVQ level 1, Pony Club or BHS qualifications preferred, but not essential.
Future prospects
Future prospects to be discussed on completion of Level 2. An option may be to continue on and study level 3.

Own transport is helpful due to public transport not running on weekends.

- College attendance will be required at our Bicton campus.
