    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Day to day duties will include:

  • To work productively within the childminder to ensure that each child’s needs are met
  • To work as a member of staff and as part of a team
  • To work with the manager to provide a safe and caring environment for children and adults
  • To provide and promote high quality care for all children
  • To talk with children and make them feel valued
  • To provide safe, appropriate play opportunities and learning experiences for all children
  • To assist with planning for activities accordingly
  • To prepare activities
  • To attend meetings as and when requested
  • To attend training sessions and keep up to date with changes in childcare
  • To carry out all responsibilities and activities within an equal opportunities framework
  • To work within all agreed policies
  • To assist and prepare meals / snacks for the children
  • To assist in keeping all childminding areas of the house clean and tidy
  • To develop an understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • To have regular meetings with the Nursery manager about your progress
  • To seek advice from staff and learn from their good practices
  • To attend college on a regular basis as agreed with the Childminding Manager and college
  • To carry out any other tasks that are directed by the Childminding Manager

From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

About the employer

A wonderful prospect to work for a person looking to work in a childcare environment. A private childminding service expanding at a rapid rate and looking to take on an apprentice to enable them to do this. Started off initially focusing on child care but grew into before and after school childcare with demand to offer more placements.
