Job Title:  Care Assistant

The key functions of the role are as follows:

• Supporting our customers by accompanying them to appointments, shopping, and helping with daily living routines including washing, dressing and personal care.

• Providing companionship and making someone’s day that little bit easier. 

• Work with colleagues to provide individualised care and safeguard our customers.

• Encourage our customers to eat and drink enough to remain healthy.

• Support our customers to take part in organised activities.

• Support our customers to improve health and wellbeing.

  • Support our customers to maintain contact with family and friends’
  • Other duties as required

Future prospects

Apprentices will have the opportunity to apply for a care assistant role or health care assistant role on completion of the apprenticeship or will be supported to progress into similar positions with other employers.  

Things to consider

You will have support from Mencap job coaches and qualified tutor/assessor to support you throughout the programme. You will also have a buddy/mentor from Somerset Care to support you. You will get support to achieve the required Maths and English levels if needed unless you are exempt.

It is important to make sure that an apprenticeship is right for you so we would need to talk to you and look at some of the skills you have already around work, travelling, English and maths. If we think that you would make a good apprentice we would be able to support you to make this a success. 

The apprenticeship programme will be 1 day in a classroom and 4 days in work. Dedicated and specialist Tutor and Job coach from Mencap will be supporting you throughout to achieve the qualification and gain a paid job at the end of the apprenticeship.
