Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.40 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.55 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £6.95 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Purpose of the role:

To provide support to all internal departments and external customers. To represent a professional frontline to the company.


 Key Responsibilities will include:


  • To answer the phones in a professional manor, transfer calls, provide support and have efficient and effective communication skills.


  • To meet and greet guests, ensure they feel welcome, allocate them to the appropriate persons and be of any assistance.


  • To support will any general filing, photocopying, the sending of post, and preparations that made need to be done e.g. staff files setting up, learn how to take meeting minutes if required, archiving, induction packs, welcome packs, care/training prospectus, any other filing


  • To support with any household tasks where needed. Maintaining refreshments within the building, and general hygiene where required. Support with preparing rooms for training and other open days.


  • To assist any other tasks from departments that may need support in meeting deadlines or extra help where required.


You will work closely with the HR and Administration Manager on a day to day basis and have regular tutorials from an experienced work based tutor from Chesterfield College.

Full teaching and learning provided throughout the Apprenticeship.

Things to consider

This can be a fast paced environment. The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.40 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
