The role will include various Accounting and Administration duties with the aim to develop and have more responsibility during your apprenticeship. The role will include some of the following areas:

  • General administrative duties including typing correspondence by e-mail and letter
  • Processing receipts, sales invoices and payments
  • Providing excellent customer services to our clients, through incoming and outgoing calls, emails and face to face meetings
  • Completing VAT return forms
  • Ensuring that accounts are accurately monitored and recorded
  • Preparing profit and loss accounts sheets
  • Preparing balance sheets
  • Answering the phone and reading/sending emails to clients
  • To deal courteously and efficiently with all visitors that comes to the office.
  • Minuting meetings/ photocopying/ filing and other administrative duties
  • Balance accounts
  • Ensuring that accounts are accurately monitored and recorded
  • Maintaining financial records which accurately record the business’ incoming and outgoing finances
  • Client engagement – sending out starter packs to clients/ answering enquiries etc
  • To undertake filing, faxing, record keeping,
  • Support to members of the Management Team
  • Using Microsoft Packages, in particular Word, Excel
  • Answering the telephone in a professional manner and dealing with enquiries
  • Providing refreshments for visitors when required
  • Inputting data onto internal systems with a high level of accuracy
  • Assisting all members of the team as and when required
  • Ensuring that the Policies of the company are observed, and that good practice is encouraged, particularly in the areas of Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and confidentiality. 

As part of your contract of employment completion of the Apprenticeship Training Programme forms part of your duties as well as helping your personal and professional development; the requirements to complete the programme are as follows:

  • Attend and be punctual for all induction sessions
  • Attend and be punctual for all lessons
  • Complete all required assignments by the required timeline.
  • Build up your portfolio of evidence on-going during your apprenticeship programme.
  • Access support from your tutor/assessor as and when required
  • Access support from your manager with regards to any evidence requirements or support as and when required
  • Attend all work-based training/support sessions

Desired qualifications

Candidates are required to have achieved AAT Level 2 or have at least 1 years’ experience of accounting duties to be accepted on the Level 3 programme (or equivalent).

GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English.

An ICT qualification (or equivalent) is desirable.

Future prospects

There is a strong possibility that you will gain a permanent position following successful employment as well as achievement of the full apprenticeship qualification.

There may also be further apprenticeship/other training available following successful employment and achievement of the apprenticeship qualifications

Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship standard:

An Assistant Accountant provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. Part of their role will involve assisting in the day-to-day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. In addition, the Assistant Accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.

You will gather work-based evidence during your apprenticeship.

Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required).

Candidates are required to have achieved AAT Level 2 or have at least 1 years’ experience of accounting duties to be accepted on the Level 3 programme (or equivalent).

GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English.

The recommended time to complete is 18 months to allow for confirmation of successful examination results/re-sits.

The AAT L3 course starts in February/March 2022 – the training will be one day per week held at Kirklees College.

Our Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard will also include Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Level 3).

An End-Point Assessment will be conducted by an external provider (interview, portfolio and synoptic test).

The end-point assessment is designed to enable apprentices to demonstrate that they are fully conversant in the skills knowledge and behaviours expected of individuals at this level.

It is designed to provide assessors with a holistic view of the apprentice, and to allow them to assess to what extent the apprentice meets or exceeds the apprenticeship standard.
