The Apprentice Dental Nurse role will require you to support your colleagues in providing an excellent service to all our patients.

Your duties would typically include the following:

  • Assisting the Dentist chair side during clinical procedures
  • Keeping the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean and sterile
  • Ensuring the best care and welfare of patients
  • Accurately completing patient clinical records as directed
  • Ensuring adequate stock of materials and other items within the surgery
  • Ensuring computer/written records are accurately maintained and securely stored
  • Liaising with reception to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records

Desired qualifications

English and maths GCSE grade C 4/5 or above, or equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications are a mandatory requirement for this role.

The practice is busy, and you will be exposed to the sight of blood. The successful candidate will be expected to work hard towards gaining their formal qualifications.

The successful candidate will be required to have a Hep B vaccination and a DBS check. 

Attendance to the dental nursing course once a fortnight at Leicester College is mandatory requirement for this position. You will also be given time during your working week to complete some theory aspects of the advanced apprenticeship programme. 

From the 1st of April 2021, the Apprentice NMW is £4.30 per hour, and will increase to £4.81 from the 1st of April 2022. This applies to 16–18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

About the employer

Rotherholme Dental practice is a family run independent dental practice. Owner, Dr Ricky Athwal, brought the practice at the beginning of 2020. Dr Athwal qualified in BDS from Birmingham university in 2008 and went on to gain further qualifications within dentistry. Since Dr Athwal brought the practice, he has been working hard modernising the practice which he continues to do. We have been a private dental practice in the heart of Ashby De La Zouch for over 30+ years.

As well as general dentistry we also offer the following, IV sedation, Dental Implants, Invisalign and a range of other cosmetic treatments. We have a friendly environment with a calm approach to dentistry and are happy to welcome new members to our team.

The Level 3 Dental Nurse apprenticeship standard, which includes: The Dental Nurse role complements the role of other dental professionals. One of the primary roles is to provide chairside support to dental professionals and deliver a high level of patient care.

Dental Nurses may work in a variety of clinical environments and the apprenticeship reflects all aspects of clinical responsibilities and duties of a dental nurse’s role and will provide the apprentice with the relevant qualification to apply to the General Dental Council (GDC) for professional registration as a dental nurse.

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)

This Apprenticeship will include college attendance 2 days a month for classroom delivery sessions, alongside theory assignments and workplace observations, plus a knowledge-based exam. 

Alongside the structured training programme offered through the apprenticeship, the employer will also provide you with a full induction programme and continuous mentoring and support from our experienced and qualified staff.
