The main aspect of the role is to support the Head Chef in all areas of menu preparation and service. An excellent opportunity to initially learn the basic culinary skills with the opportunity to progress quickly under his one-to-one training and guidance.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of raw ingredients, across all food types
  • Cooking skills from basic level to advanced
  • Move through each section of the kitchen learning the required skills, such as sauce, butchery, desserts, starters etc.
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene
  • Taking deliveries and dealing with stock rotation
  • Ordering and administration
  • Training in menu planning
  • Training in kitchen due diligence

Desired qualifications

Candidates will ideally have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grades D/3 or above (or equivalent) including maths & English

No other qualifications are required as full training will be given.

If you do not hold a qualification in maths & English at level 2, you will be required to do Functional Skills in these subjects prior to the completion of the apprenticeship.

Future prospects

We do have future opportunities to join the team, level would dependant on competence.

Things to consider

If candidates are relying on public transport to travel to work, they must look into transport links before applying due to the rural location.

Shift information: 

  • Majority of shifts will be straight and not split
  • Shifts will be on a rota for each week. The candidate will get 1 full weekend off each month (to be arranged in advance)

This is a Level 2 Commis Chef apprenticeship standard and will include a combination of on and off the job training in the workplace.

You will have monthly mentoring and guidance at work from a Craven College Learning & Development Advisor alongside weekly college attendance.

After 15 months you will be entered to undertake an End Point Assessment, to complete your apprenticeship.
