About the employer

Fluorsid British Fluorspar Ltd (FBFL) operates Milldam Mine in the Peak District extracting fluorspar ore from a sub-vertical hydrothermal vein hosted in limestones. The ore is extracted using sub-level open stoping with a trackless fleet of mobile plant from 7 to 25 tonnes in size supported by smaller auxiliary and light vehicles. The electrical infrastructure comprises transforming 11kV line-in at surface to 3.3kV for main distribution underground. Underground 3.3kV is transformed to 415V underground through a number of transformers varying from 150kVa to 500kVa. The 415V supply is distributed into the working areas to rig connections boxes and ancillary equipment such as but not limited to dewatering pumps, and ventilation fans.

Ore from Milldam is transported to Cavendish Mill for processing into Acid Grade fluorspar which is sold into the global chemical market as the raw material for fluoro-chemical products.
