This is a unique 2 year business apprenticeship opportunity to work for an organisation which is both a business and a charity.
As a customer facing business, in the first year, the role will focus on all aspects of customer service. The apprentice will learn about the organisation, its values, policies and procedures and have regular ‘hands-on’ opportunities to engage with customers in a range of areas such as retail, fundraising, events, community radio, gate and boat operations.
On successful completion of year 1, the apprentice will progress to Business Administration Level 3 and will continue to learn and develop key business skills while helping to support different departments within the organisation. The apprentice will take on further responsibilities and have the opportunity to focus on specific aspects of administration.
Requirements and prospects
- Ability to ‘get involved’ and be prepared to engage with all aspects of Pier operations.
- IT literate and confident using a computer. Good knowledge of Microsoft, emails, spreadsheets etc.

GCSE A-C/4-9 in English and Maths or equivalent
Progression to a higher level apprenticeship qualification and to progress within the business. Possible permanent position for the right candidate on completion of the Apprenticeship.
Things to consider
The role will need to be flexible in order to support the business demands and the variation in seasonal activities.
From 1st April 2022, the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £4.81 per hour. This rises annually as set by government. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of an Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
