Responsibilities Working as a technician within one or more of the company’s design teams involved in delivering projects across a variety of construction sectors. Key elements of the role include:

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Good communications, numeracy and IT skills are all important, as is the ability to work as part of a team while also having plenty of your own initiative. Strong problem solving, attention to detail and a desire to come up with practical solutions will also stand you in good stead. To be a civil engineering technician you should:

Desired qualifications

A minimum of five GCSEs grade C or above which must include English, Maths, Science and a technology related subject. We ask that you must have a 6 or above in GCSE Maths in order to cope with the demands of training and work.

Future prospects

This apprenticeship role will enable the successful candidate to work within the field of civil, structural and geotechnical engineering design. A great start in the industry, it will open doorways to further study – perhaps a HNC and engineering degree. Upon successful completion of the two year apprenticeship, a professional qualification with the Institution of Civil Engineers awaits (TMICE). You will be receiving on-the-job training at the sharp end of engineering.

Things to consider

You will attend Bridgewater College, one day a week as part of your taught programme. Travel? You will be provided with two mentors; one for your civil engineering development and the other on BIM/CAD skills. This is an office based opportunity. There will be some exposure to site work but from a consultancy viewpoint.

The practice undertakes design commissions for public and private sector clients and contractors. Workload is divided between the design of permanent works and the development of temporary works and construction methodology together with design of any specialist equipment necessary to build the structure.
