Any successful applicant would be expected to utilise and enhance their classroom based education by working alongside and supporting current fabricator welders, both shop based and factory environments. They will learn to fabricate and weld steel structure and components. They will ultimately support other engineers on a variety of breakdowns and preventative maintenance. From heavy duty foundry and rolling mill installations to office block and environmental plant modernisation plans, the range of on-site work will be challenging, interesting and rewarding.
The successful applicant will learn:
- MIG welding
- MMA (ARC) welding
- TIG welding
- Gas flame cutting
- Plasma cutting
- Measuring and marking out materials
- Material cutting and techniques
- Bending, shaping and forming materials
- Reading complex drawings
- Relevant manual hand tools
- Learn all relevant H&S legislation requirements

- Candidates should have an enthusiasm for industry, thirst for knowledge, dependable and willing to work outdoors
Desired qualifications
GCSE or equivalent at grade 4/C as a minimum in maths and English.
Future prospects
The apprentice would be taught a variety of different skills and a number of rolling machines. The Company will coach and mentor the individual to their highest capability.
Things to consider
This is a factory environment which may be considered noisy and dirty. This role may involve early starts and possible shift work.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Please note that this Intermediate (Level 2) Apprenticeship will last for 12-18 months. It will involve spending one day per week at MAKE UK's state-of-the-art Training Hub in Aston, and four days per week at the employer's site for the duration of the apprenticeship.
