Customer Service Consultants provide support for specific areas across all key parts of the publishing process, from the conception of book, through to the production and marketing, in a variety of paper and digital formats supporting the relevant departments.

At the end of this learning path, apprentices will have a keen understanding of customer services within the publishing industry and you will learn the day to day operations of making the journey easy for our authors.

You will liaise directly with authors, internal staff, freelancers & directors of the company. We communicate by phone, e-mail and good old-fashioned posting of letters.

You will get an opportunity to work in the following departments:

Submissions, editorial, production, finance, media & communications and the warehouse where all the books are sent to their final destinations.

Within this apprenticeship your responsibilities will be:

  • Replying to e-mails
  • Process manuscripts
  • Undertake various filing duties
  • Take payments and reconcile payments
  • Raise invoices
  • Answer incoming and making outgoing calls
  • Use internal databases to ensure data is kept up to date   
  • Communicate with authors and provided all the information we require.

This is an exciting opportunity where you will spend 6-8 weeks in various departments.

We are looking for someone who likes making suggestions and bring new ideas to the business.

Desired qualifications

  • Grade C/4 or higher in English and maths at GCSE (or equivalent or Functional Skills maths/English Level 2)

Future prospects

We look to progress our employees in the hopes that after the apprenticeship has been completed, you will be offered a full-time position within Austin Macauley Publishers where you will earn a full-time salary.

We have used apprentices in the past and all have been given full-time employment after the completion of their course.

Things to consider

You may be required to attend book events & all expenses will be paid.

The majority of the work will be computer-based and you will work in three different offices.

This qualification is a Standard which involves and End Point Assessment, which includes:

  • A knowledge test
  • A portfolio review
  • A project presentation

About the employer

We are a publishing house based in Witchford just outside of Ely. We currently employ thirty friendly and professional members of staff within three office buildings all based on the same estate.
